AMFI fulfills a felt need
The Indian Mutual Fund Industry is a fast growing segment of the economy. The Industry
consists of 36 Mutual Funds including Unit Trust of India. With 397 schemes spread over
variety of products the industry today manages assets close to Rs. 97,000 crores. While
AMFI brings out quarterly newsletter and monthly update giving current data on Sales,
Redemptions and Assets Under Management, there is no single source from which one could
easily get authenticated and standardised data for a series of years. AMFI fulfills this
need. In its effort to disseminate information on Mutual Fund Industry, AMFI has taken the
initiative to bring out an Year Book in collaboration with UTIICM.
An Year Book with a difference
This is an Year Book with a difference it provides data on the Mutual Fund
Industry for a period of five years 1996-2000 and it also gives directory of each mutual
fund.
Authenticated and Standardised data
For the first time in India authenticated and standardised data based on the Annual
Reports of all Mutual Funds is presented in an analytical and meaningful manner. It is a
systematic compilation of aggregated data across pre-defined categories representing
ownership of the Asset Management Companies and types of products. It contains data on net
assets, asset allocation, income and expenses of Mutual Funds.
A useful source to aid analysis of trend
The Year Book is a reference source for aggregated data on Indian Mutual Fund Industry
providing useful data for analysis of such variables as net assets of different segments
of the industry and across different categories of funds etc. It is also a source of
reference on trends in income and expenses. It provides industry benchmark for net assets,
asset allocation, income and expenses and does this for each category of these items as
presented in annual reports. It is one source of reference for industry benchmarks. Such
benchmarks are extremely useful in policy and regulation, in performance evaluation and in
peer group comparisons.
Directory of all Mutual Funds
The Year Book contains basic information on each Mutual Fund with names of Trustees,
Directors of Asset Management Companies (AMC), Fund Managers and other officers of the
AMC, Custodian, Auditors, Registrars as well as assets and schemes under operation as at
the end of March 2000.
The Year Book will serve a wide range of interests from policy makers, regulators,
decision makers, analysts, media, researchers and academics to investors. Apart from the
wealth of meaningfully presented data this book has an executive summary analysing the
trends in respects of Net Asset, Asset Allocation, Income and Expenses.
Shri M. Damodaran, Chairman, Unit Trust of India who presided over the function paid
compliments to AMFI and UTIICM for bringing out such a useful book. Shri R. M. Joshi,
Executive Director, SEBI in charge of Mutual Funds Division was happy to see that at one
place useful data on Mutual Fund Industry is now available and that it will be of great
value to the users.
